MY STORY

Good Copy Drives Results

There are differences between good copy and bad copy.  Generic copy is bad copy.  Stale copy is bad copy.  Disorganized copy is bad copy.  Bad copy always gets the same result.

Bad copy is ignored.  And that can mean disaster for this week’s sales numbers. . .and, this month’s, and this quarter’s. . .

Worst of all, bad copy leaves your greatest supporters wondering. . .what happened?  And you'll never know it by looking because bad copy lacks spark and you'll never see what isn't there.

Jason Rights Copy

I bring a fresh and focused voice to your Legal, Financial, and Technology product or service.  I draw on a wide and deep foundation of expertise and education.

A Good Copywriter Loves Their Niche and Market

Early Life and Education

Like literally five or six other people, I grew up in southwestern North Dakota.  I graduated from the University of North Dakota with BBAs in Finance and Information Systems and a B.Acc. in Accountancy.  Later, I earned a JD from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, MN.

Work Experience

In Washington, DC and after earning my CPA, I started my career working in the Defense and Civilian sectors of the Federal Government.  I next moved into consulting, working at BearingPoint and Deloitte.  I focused on sorting out specialized Legal, Accounting, and Technology issues.  While there, I had a number of adventures, including helping to resolve the famed Cobel v. Norton litigation, being a member of the team who worked out the US Department of Justice’s qualified financial statement opinion, and interviewing prominent policymakers as a part Deloitte Research’s inaugural Public Sector thought leadership season.

I moved back to the Midwest and explored IT Audit and Information Security in the financial services industry.  I led the first Cybersecurity audit at a large midwestern bank and setup the function that reviews and evaluates risks associated with customer and vendor contracts, an emerging Cybersecurity issue, at a large software company.  Need a technology heavyweight?  I'm a CISA, a CCSP, and a CISSP.

I teach Law, Tax Compliance, Tax Controversy, Automation, and Information Security for the AICPA.

Good Copy Has a Human Touch

I live in Shakopee, MN, the only Minnesota town mentioned in the movie Cars (scan for the minivan scene) where I began my copywriting career.  I have two OUTSTANDING kids.  One is a black belt and the other runs the Lemonade Mafia in Scott County.  I developed my marketing skills with the American Writers and Artists Institute and was mentored by copywriting giant Jay White.
